John Blight

I lived from 1913-1995. I was from Australia, and am in the Oceania category.

John Blight was born in Unley, South Australia in 1913, but lived for the major part of his life in Queensland. Throughout the great depression Blight, like so many other Australian was  unable to obtain work,he  walked the coast of Queensland in an attempt to find employment. He was lucky enough to find a position, in 1939, as an accountant in the town of Bundaberg.
He became part-owner of timber mills in the Gympie region after the war. but then  decided to return to Brisbane in 1968 and, in 1973, he became a full-time writer. Blight's first published poem appeared in the 1939 Bulletin, and in 1945, The Old Pianist, his first collection, was published. 'Soaring With the Culture Vultures', Educational Magazine, XXXVI, 3, 1979 is an example of his prose work.
